Edge Painting 101
Edge painting is a technique that can truly take a design to the next level. A humble business card can easily be transformed into a vibrant pop of colour, sure to draw the attention of everyone.
The degree of difficulty isn't high, but the end result warrants a lot of thought put into the selection of colour.
This is one of the last steps in the letterpress process, taking place after all printing and cut down has been done. Simply put, the cards are stacked neatly, against a walled press. Once these are firmly pressed into place you can begin to paint the side of the paper, evenly to ensure sufficient coverage. This is repeated on the other sides and left to dry.
To use this process it is necessary to choose a thick card, so there is a nice thick edge to paint.
