Summer has ended, but the wonderful weather has thankfully continued. To celebrate it's longevity and good times before another chill comes, here is the gorgeous beach-vibe wedding of Maddy and Brod.
Maddy, an anaesthetic nurse, and Brod, a real estate agent, married in October 2015, on what could only be described as the perfect day. Moby Dicks at Whale Beach, on Sydney's Northern Beaches, provided the perfect location for their relaxed, laid-back wedding.
On the proposal:
“Maddy tends to be the organiser of the group so when very good friends of ours had planned a trip home to Sydney, Maddy thought she was planning a catch up with everyone. Little did she know Brod was in the background organising everything.
We got engaged in winter and it just happened to be on what felt like the coldest night. Brod had planned for all our friends to meet at Opera Bar in Sydney for drinks and dinner. He had clued in a few of them as to what was going to happen but I was none the wiser. Now that I think back on it though, he was looking a bit nervous and wasn't able to sit still.
One of my girlfriends handed me a package with a hand-written note from Brod, which said "I bought you something that might come in handy, the rest of the surprise is waiting upstairs for you".
Brod had bought a stack of bridal magazines and wrapped them up for me. I started crying at this point and everyone was cheering, filling up the champagne glasses. My sister had to help me walk up the stairs to the Opera House foreshore where Brod was standing under a light post with a big smile on his face!
I don’t remember exactly what he said, but we we're both so swept up in the moment he forgot to get down on one knee which we laughed about after the ring was on my finger!
We then spent the night with friends and family celebrating before staying at the Shangri-la which Brod had sneakily booked!”.
The wedding day was all about creating a good time for their family and friends, with plenty of great food, wine and music. Neutral colours and a relaxed feel influenced the pair, with Moby Dicks’ providing exactly what they sought - a no-fuss venue in a beautiful setting.
On the favourite moment:
Maddy - “I had both my mum and dad walk me down the aisle so that was pretty special, and also our first dance which was to Sam Smith’s ‘Latch’. We have always loved the song and the amazing band we had (SuiteAz) did the most incredible job singing it.”
Brod - “My favourite moment of the day was spending time with my closest family and friends the morning of the wedding and seeing my beautiful bride walk down the aisle - nothing much that can beat that!”
On the meaning of marriage: “A lifetime of adventures with the one you love. A bond that is unbreakable. Waking up every morning next to your best friend and realising just how lucky you are.”
Maddy and Brod went with Terrace Press' timeless package (complete with Invitation, Envelope, RSVP and Information Cards), with a design from the studio collection (Simply Love), with all wording and colours customisable.
On the dress: “I bought my dress from Penrith Bridal Centre. It was a Justin Alexander gown. I went there with my bridesmaids just to see what style suited my body shape because I’d heard how great their selection of dresses was. I ended up finding the one pretty easily. I had to skype my mum who was overseas to see if she liked it! The staff there were fantastic, I would highly recommend!”
Even though Brod managed to tear his bicep the week before the wedding (and underwent surgery a few days after their honeymoon in the Maldives), the wedding went by without a hitch - full of memorable moments and breathtaking pictures.
Maddy and Brod also shared some advice on creating a stress-free wedding:
